BAJC has sponsored a meal team for Groundworks for many years on the last Sunday of every month, bringing a ready to eat, warm and delicious meal to the shelter at dinner time. Other teams do the same thing, some do it more often, but this still leaves almost half the nights of the month uncovered. We’d like to do more to help and so Diane Shamas is putting together another team that will cover the 2nd Thursday of each month. This will be in addition to the synagogue’s commitment to cover the last Sunday of every month and the last thing we want is to take away support for that meal. So, if you don’t participate in the Sunday meal or if you have the capacity to do a second meal each month—this is for you. The new team won’t be sponsored by BAJC, so you can also help by passing the word on to friends or neighbors who might want to participate.
Each month we will need 8 people to cook family sized disposable pans of a ground meat, pasta and cheese dish, one to make a vegetarian version, three to make a hot vegetable, one to purchase loaves of bread and butter and two others to make or purchase dessert. About 3 weeks before the 2nd Thursday, Diane will send an email to anyone who has agreed to contribute with an opportunity to sign up for a particular job that month. The email will include recipes recommended for everyone use to make this a more efficient and predictable process and will feature a link to a SignUp Genius page with all the slots to prepare the meal. The recipes are easy to follow at a standard cost of approximately $20. You can sign up every month or as often as you are able. If you can contribute but can’t show up on the 2nd Thursday, you can also arrange to deliver your item early to Diane’s house.
If you are willing to be a regular or occasional part of the team, please contact Diane.Shamas@gmail.comwith your email and phone number and give her an idea how often you might be able to participate. We hope to start by offering dinner on January 8th.
